Peter Wins in Australia!
17th of January, 2012
The legendary Ledge to Lancelin marathon was dominated by Avanti team-rider Peter Volwater on his brand new Machine M-1 straight out of the bag!
Volwater's winning margin of 1 minute and 36 seconds is the biggest margin of victory in the history of the long-standing marquee race of the Australian annual competition calendar.
What a performance.
Here is what H-24 had to say about the race:
"First race of the 2012 season down under was the Ledge Point to Lancelin Ocean Classic! Celebrating its 27th anniversary and holding the Guiness book of world records as the longest running windsurfing event in the world while I competed on the newest sails on the market.
Thanks to all the event sponsors and my personal sponsors Fanatic, Pro Limit and AVANTI sails.
The sails were working awesome like expected: great low-end power/planing ability, fast on all reaches and easy, stable with excellent handling. I had quite the handicap starting low on the start line and having to run further to the water than average with board in one hand and the rig in the other. People where already up and planing when I was still jumping on my board, especially Dan Engdahl and Jesper Orth had great starts. I was pretty much getting off the beach with the first ten sailors quite far behind the leaders and I proceeded to work my way up to second quickly at the first boat marker and then controlling the race from the second boat marker onwards.
It was great to win at Lancelin by the biggest margin ever, a 96 second lead in 08-15 knots of wind.
The party was rocking and the prize giving, good fireworks, great band, awesome people and atmosphere; an extraordinary experience to remember.
A big cheers to a new dawn with Avanti Sails.
Best Regards, Peter Volwater H-24
